Way too much Euro-trash in that list

C'mon, Godard, Fellini and Antonioni are now old hat. Yeah, they were hipsters back in the 60's when they figured out that you didn't need to film everything in a studio with a camera the size of a commercial refrigerator. I re-watched Breathless the other day - it really is just vapid Euro-shite.

Where is the film noir in that list? Carol Reed? David Lean?

I've recently come to the conclusion that the Hollywood studio pics from the 1940s and 50s were probably the best movies ever made. The Hollywood silent movies from the 1920s were also masterful, especially where they fused European aesthetics with American sensibilities. The Hollywood new wave of the 1970s also gave us some great pics. The pre-French new wave directors like Bresson, Melville, Carne, created vastly superior pics than their new wave successors. British cinema of the 30s and 40s also gave us many superior pics, from the likes of Hitchcock, Lean, Reed, etc.

I've just spend the last two years watching about 2,000 movies. I will post my "findings" soon.
