I realize that people liked his performance, but I thought it was mediocre at best. He was tremendously miscast. I felt he lacked the age and gravitas for the part. I realize he was doing an entirely different version from Jack Nicholson's, but even for what it was, I found it trite and didn't feel he pulled it off. It was shameful that the studio milked his death with excess hype for the sake of a buck.
Perhaps he's just a favorite because of Brokeback?
