I've just finished watching the brand spanking new restoration of The Wicker Man. This must surely be the Blu-Ray release of the year. The three disc set contains the theatrical version, along with the Final Cut, plus the Director's Cut (this last version is in standard def only). There are lots of extras as well.
The restoration is spectacular. No trace of DNR anywhere. No blemishes or speckles either. The colours are rich and deep, with a natural layer of light film grain. You get to see Britt Ekland in all her glory. The only problem is some of the material that infamously "went missing" during the editing stage. Although it's nice to have this five minutes of new material in the Final Cut, it doesn't look as good as the rest of the movie.
The bad news is that this release is locked to region B. I do believe the US version (Final Cut only) is being released in early January 2014.
Maybe if you've been good this year Santa will bring you a late Christmas present.
