read several critics reviews. From those I gather that:
1) this is a re-boot of the genre.
2) as a reboot the fist episode is always the source of the legend. In this case, evidently, Vlad The Impaler.
3) as with the other 21'st century reboots much license will be taken with what historical fact there is about 'Vlad'.
4) and the door will be wide open for future episodes to re-tell this re-imagined legend.
I would have thought that the world had seen enough vampire movies by now. Evidently not.
