Great film...

that got there (in my estimation) about 20 years after it was released.

Captures that gritty, Boston street scene crime feel way better than, say, "The Departed"
and REALLY conveys the feeling of the marvelous book it is based on by George V.
Higgins (who co-wrote the script). Brilliant, realistic (I guess!) dialog it is more a character
study than a "crime" novel, and the characters are damned interesting.

Easy, well paced film, solid performances, good cinematography, pure early 1970's Americana.

Could stand to see it again soon, AND re-read the novel

"Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination"-Michael McClure
