On the prairie, three women have suffered tragedies that have left them unable to function w/in their families: they've "lost their senses" and cannot tend to themselves. The community doesn't know what to do with them and a single woman who is successful, an unwilling old-maid--- wonderfully portrayed by Hillary Swank--- volunteers to take them to a church in Iowa for caring.
Soon after she leaves, she finds a man about to be hung and rescues him (Jones) with the proviso that he will accompany and help her on the mission.
Trust me, this is not a typical oater; the story is very well written, the surprises will leave your mouth agape. Two days later, I find myself thinking about this film.
It is worth seeking out; it doesn't appear to be in wide release.

Topic - "The Homesman." I'm not a fan of Tommy Lee Jones, but he's very good in this and it's a very good film. - tinear 21:34:05 12/30/14 (3)
