A gap-toothed Depp mumbled and bumbled his way through what is supposed to be a delightful English comedy. The real comedy is on the folks who spent their hard cash producing this good-looking, well staged disaster.
It seems everyone played a character not a role, so to speak. Paul Bettany provided giggles with his spot on criminal manservant who was always appreciative of his employer even when attacked by a Doberman. Paltrow just floated about smiling (aristocratically) and being a demanding "Lady" of the estate who always gets her way. Poor Ewan McGergor played a high level MI5'er assigned to find the stolen Goya in 1 and a 1/2 dimensions.
This "film" is approximately 40 years too late as it is exactly the same dreck the UK piped over here during that time.
Well, I went for merde and giggles and got more of the former and much less of the latter. But, it was pretty with lotsa Brit panache in location, art direction, and costumes.
If you are having a restless night just turn this one on and the next thing you will experience is your alarm setting off.
