Purely coincidentally, we watched two Romanian movies last three days. Both turned out to be above average.

The second one, Beyond the Hills, is definitely not the film for everyone. Set up in a tiny monastery somewhere in the rural Romania, it deals with the soul and its torment. However, if you enjoyed the Russian film Island, or Bergman's Persona, you might consider this one a sister... or a brother film, full of insight and difficult and unanswered questions.
