Is there any substance within the plot with which to make a sequel?
I could see making a TV series out of the basic environment. but with new characters. Are we still retiring "Replicants"? Shall we venture off to one of the off-world colonies? There could be war in another galaxie.
Almost all animal life has gone extinct on Earth, but remaining humans want their pets, so 'replicant' pets become a big business. I suppose someone's replicant dog could go amok and kill its owner. Now someone has to come along and 'retire' the replicant dog. ho-hum.
But where does Deckard go? At the end of the movie he's in his air car with Rachel heading for a border. Escape, to save Rachel from "retirement". (director's cut) It's now 33 years later, Deckard is much older, but Rachel must still appear the same. Think of the emotional turmoil over that. Perhaps Deckard and Rachel could not find peace in their life on the lam. Maybe there is a story there, but I'm not coming up with anything interesting.
I thought the movie fairly well followed the novel (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep)All the major plot points were hit. Some detail variation but the essence of the novel exists within the movie. And I thought the novel was concluded. Story over. That's all folks. Or so I thought. but apparently Scott has a screenplay written for a sequel.
