I for one did not see Bob, coming...Damn Mr. Hardy turns in another exceptional performance...played the perfect mook, completely embodied it...I loved the way he shuffled, spoke, perceivingly dim witted...never tipped his cards until he went Popeye..."I took all I could stands and I can't stands no more"
Noomi and James G put in really great performances...both believable and honest...
Now two of the minor performances that were just exceptional were Matthias Schoenaerts, Eric Deeds...psycho bully dog/woman beating ex boyfriend...who was trying so hard to hold it together, but the craziness and sociopath just under the first layer...made you hold your breath every time he was on screen...his size really loomed on the screen, always stood a little too close and spoke a little to soft...
John Ortiz has been a great character actor for years...but this wise, street smart, very Catholic detective had figured things out early, but let everything unfold, almost to satisfy his own morality...let the streets balance them self out...he had no problem trading evil for lesser evil...the last scene of him and Hardy was perfect...just to let him know...he knew...
This is one of those movies that had a great script...but it really was all about the casting...this was one exceptionally well cast movies...this could have easily been a turd if it was cast wrong...
Very solid 4.25 stars out of 5...
Thanks
Mark
