'The Gift': The past keeps on giving . . . .

Clever and tense this film has its gripping moments and actually elicited a shriek from the ladies in the audience. The first half of the film is methodically paced with excellent cinematography and direction. Bateman proves himself a credible dramatic actor while Hall goes from borderline hysteric to nosy housewife with a cause. (Yes Robin, if life is good don't interrupt it.)

This is a classic storyline about "the past" coming home to roost. Edgerton accidentally meets Simon and Robin who have just moved back to Simon's hometown area. Gordo then systematically invades their space and tries his best to insert himself into their lives. Much creepiness and tension during the first half as the conflict between Simon and Gordon build.

Technically excellent, this is a good non-kiddie drama to send the kids back to school. I liked it and it would make a great matinee.
