Jack Dwyer loses his business in Texas and drags his wife and two girls to Cambodia(?) so he can start all over for a very large American company. Annie isn't too sure about this and gets a shock at how things are in 2nd and 3rd world Asia when once they arrive.
While trying to get a ride from the airport to their hotel they are assisted by a stranger they met on the plane named Hammond (Brosnan) who has a buddy with a "moped" bus. They arrive and Hammond said they were going to like it here.
The next morning police and rioters square off on shopping streets and the worst day of their lives begins. Jack (Wilson) barely makes it back from buying a paper only to see an American executed outside his hotel. Now the chasing and dying begins. Finally, the Dwyer's make it to the river knowing that our new buddies, Viet Nam, are just down the stream on the left. Will they make it?
This is a tense and gritty film about trying to save your family and yourself against seemingly impossible odds. During their survival plight Hammond reappears and lends them as much aid as he can while educating us on big business and their schemes.
This film is not entertainment unless car wrecks and plane crashes amuse you. It's soul purpose seems to revolve around tugging on your emotions back and forth and its pretty good at that. Not the best movie on the block but a new one to see. 8^) Don't bother with the mother-in-law or your wife's anniversary--just keep it low key.
PS. Not based on real events.
