Thanks for the heads-up. I was able to tune in as young Apu was checking out the school and watched until he was about to go off to college (older Apu/different actor appeared), I think. Anyhow, I reluctantly pulled myself away so that I could start from the beginning. The classroom scene in which Apu reads poetry from a native author was fascinating. After getting the gist or substance of the poem from the subtitles, I simply listened and was able to hear the "poetry" in the words spoken by Apu. Then, when the headmaster started giving Apu all those books to read on his own . . . what an inspirational slice of humanity!
