In a lot of films Fresh Prince is easy to blow off but it is the TRANS-FORMATIVE roles that send him to the podiums. Here, he IS the Nigerian pathologist with a jillion degrees that haplessly takes on the NFL through a burning desire to do what is right and a complete ignorance of how America works under the surface. Only in a few short scenes did I see glimmer of Will Smith as he does have a shape-shifting gift.
All the performances were top flight. Baldwin, Robert Morse, and Albert Brooks. (I find Brooks walking/talking irony and am a big fan.) The director got the best from these and all the others. No slackers here.
I found this a compelling story and I learned a few things--which is a bonus for me. Taking home something you didn't know is what makes a modern film great.
This is a must see as it will be cropping up during awards season.
