Such a grand and elegant send-up of Ms Austen and Zombies. This is the mother of all Zombie prequels and should be seen as a sharp satire rather than a comedy-horror film. The dialog is Austen, the actors finely directed as being serious with a coloration of mirth, the art direction so typically Brit with a budget, and the action well choreographed and ghoulish. It is hard to believe this film had so much money thrown at it.
The plot shows us an England that has nearly fallen to a zombie invasion as a result of British overseas trade that brought the plague home. A very clever history of these events start the film before inviting us into the Bennet home and meeting their lovely daughters. An interesting ensemble of actors collect and the plot moves forward with dialog seemingly straight from the literature.
I enjoyed this mostly from being overwhelmed at the budget and action. The producers, director, and actors took this seriously. I mostly smiled, not laughed, at the social dilemma and manners as well as the snatches of Lilly James heaving bodice.
Clearly, this is not for everyone. If you like that classy Brit look, zombies, good looking people, and the wonder of non-stop satire this may be for you. This is almost on the top rung of "time killing" just before must see.
