10 Cloverdale Lane

I missed all the marketing for this one so for me at least, it was entirely out of left field. Mostly the interaction of 3 personalities in confined quarters with not a whole lot of action but much tension even in the quieter scenes. John Goodman's character was the center of everything and is pretty creepy. What action there is is well placed and serves the plot.

Speaking of the plot; it seems to have been well guarded prior to release because I had no idea what to expect going in (read/heard none of today's reviews prior to viewing). I thought I had it all figured out about 20 minutes in. It seemed to be a mashup of stuff we've all seen before like "Panic Room" and "Sucker Punch" with a little apocalyptic scifi thrown in as seasoning. I was wrong. Between the tension and the somewhat unexpected end, I was on the edge of my seat for most of it. Closing scene prepares us for a sequel.

Interestingly, Cloverdale has been released in both conventional 2D and IMAX 2D. I saw the conventional version and can't imagine much visual improvement from the IMAX version. OTOH, 12KW of IMAX sound could enhance some of the tension climaxes. Overall, good weekend popcorn movie. Interesting score too. 3.75/5
