I really enjoyed the opening sequence in ancient Egypt with all the glorious CGI. Very impressive. Everything was just boffo except of Oscar Issac's ridiculous makeup job. I wondered if he was supposed to be the first Joker?
The story seems a bit more simplistic this time. God Zero recruits four X-Types in order to destroy an impure world and create a new one. Not a bad idea except such purification always costs billions of lives.
The film does some nice, quick character building before everyone chooses sides between naughty and nice. Magneto chooses naughty and turns out to cause the neatest CGI effects.
Maybe it was just me but something was niggling me. I think the simplicity of the dialog and some of the framing was more comic book than any of the other "super" movies. Maybe it was me.
Well done, well acted, and superb CGI -- that's what it's all about afterall.
Go ahead and beat the Memorial Day heat and see it if you aren't on the Med.
