Sneaky Pete on Amazon- successor to Breaking Bad

I watched Breaking Bad in one long binge a couple years ago. It is one of my favorite TV series of all time.

Better Call Saul is fine, but it is a lot lighter in tone and has not really settled into a strong plot yet.

So now Bryan Cranston has produced and stars in Sneaky Pete on Amazon.

To me, this feels a lot closer in spirit to Breaking Bad. It is on Amazon and is the first really good show I've seen from there (I thought Man in the High Castle was just OK, not interested enough to watch Season 2).

These are not spoilers because they happen in the first 10 minutes. Our hero, Marius, is in great danger after his release from prison, so he decides to take the identity of his prison friend Pete. He heads up to Pete's grandparents' farm and tells them he's Pete, returning after 20 years.

He's a con man and this is a con, but boy, does it get complicated. If there is a negative here, it is an increasing series of plot complications that puts our anti-hero in danger from a ridiculously large number of directions. If one problem is solved, two more seem to pop up.

So I've seen 8 out of 10 so far, and do not know how this will work out, but I do know Amazon has ordered a 2nd season.

It's a lot of fun, lots of con games inside of con games, the very tough noir style gangsters (and Cranston plays a really bad man). It gets pretty violent and one scene I found hard to watch. But I really like it.
