RE: 'A Quiet Place': Refreshingly Tense

Excellent synopsis - Thank you Mr Wonka!

Here's my 2 cents ...

We saw "A Quiet Place" today on "movie date Friday" and we were both pleasantly surprised - considering the absolute dreck there was to choose from.

There were no films of interest and we chose "A Quiet Place" by default. "Ready Player One" was our 2nd choice, but neither of us were excited to see another well-crafted and totally forgettable Spielberg film.

"A Quiet Place" has some unexplained post-apocalyptic aliens that are quite scary and the sheer silence of the film makes every sound ... a potential reason to jump out of your seat! The composer described the film as "...This movie is not a horror movie, It's first and foremost a family drama..." and it was first- rate in that regard. The acting was excellent and both Emily Blunt and Millicent Simmonds gave excellent performances. I felt invested in their characters.

That said, it reminded me of the style of M Night Shyamalan... not necessarily a bad thing - but not my thing.

Again, if you're choosing between four or five films - and three of those films are based on video games or a comic book- I highly recommend "A Quiet Place" to be your choice. The scenes in the wheat grain silo were worth the price of admission.
