So far I've seen the first two episodes. There are some important differences between this new reboot and the 60's TV series it originates from. Differences like; Will Robinson's robot and where it came from. Dr. Smith - big difference there. The circumstances of the crash landing and many more. There may be a war overhead, I'm not yet certain. And of course we have females taking part in operations and solutions to problems rather than standing around and just looking pretty. On the whole the setup is much more serious and not at all silly as the original series tended to be.
CGI is definitely very good (a feast for the eyes at times) and necessary to the outer-space sequencies, necessary for the landscape of the planet they're on, necessary for many stunts and catastrophic events, miscellaneous pieces of high tech equipment, etc. So far, nothing gratuitous, everything counts.
