Not unusual to find good movies of any age.
I am always surprised at how a quality silent movie can draw you into a story, yet uses a completely different approach to story telling than modern talking movies.
Perhaps the good poster is letting time sift out the dreck and has no similar quality filter for modern stuff. Because, we all know movies are better than ever , and are your best entertainment value. Perhaps these movies resonate because of his age when they were new, like your favorite pop music is from your formative years.
I can't see movies as the only product that has evolved to be worse through the years,i think the craft has clearly advanced in the stories they can tell. But there is no accounting for taste.
I upgraded my film knowledge from classic series of DVD's from the library, and recently became a member of a film house. I now can go to movies where people break out into applause as names come on the screen for the opening credits. , a good producer, director, and even quality secondary contributors, designers, camera , might bring the joy.
I am learning. I now check the credits at the end of movies, and find a lot of second unit directors and such are getting their names on enough good stuff that I recognize the names.
Not that this matters, but I was always bummed when Jane Wyman showed up in the cast, just not my style , man.
