Seven people collide at the El Royale for a one-night stay. We start off slow but soon this film becomes a cast resume filled with character development of Olypian proportions compared to films of late. We see the background of each guest and how they came to rent a room. Then the action begins with nice zig zags thrown in for good measure. Everyone has a chance to do right or wrong depending.Bridges is there to recover stolen cash from ten years ago. Hamm is there to recovery something entirely else while Ervio just needs a cheap place to stay before singing in Reno the next day. Johnson appears to have kidnapped a young girl who needs deprogramming from a cult which goes sideways when the cult leader shows up (Hemsworth).
We are treated to a few delicious vocals by Ervino who may be chasing a support statue for her performance.
Slow to start, it becomes more compelling moment by moment to a crescendo of violence and redemption.
3.5 wonks for script, performances, and its compelling story telling
1 wank for making us wait too long before the good parts start
