I don't often post here, but this film should be on your radar.Subdued independent drama written and directed by Debra Granik of Winter's Bone fame.
PTSD suffering dad and young teen daughter living off the grid illegally in the woods outside Portland, OR.
When the daughter is spotted by a hiker the police flush them out and social services attempts to place them in a new, more orthodox living arrangement.
Film is propelled by the quietly growing tension between the father and daughter and their differences over the idea of what constitutes a home.
Ben Foster gives a great tormented silence performance and the young actress who plays the daughter is just about perfect.
Film draws you in and remains intriguing with great shots of a Northwestern forest and little tricks of survival living.
Its effect lingers with you days after watching.
Recommended. Just released on DVD.
