"The favorite" is a costume drama with such good reviews I went to see it. Turns out they were right, great acting, story, dialogue and production. About the only flaw was the usual , the royal wall hangings looked old, but that is far from the point of the film.
It is done in an unusual format, chapters , so some time can be easily skipped in the tale, I suppose.
The film is a product of a skilled, sly hand. As the impossible to read credits roll, since they use a typeset style from that age , and most of the crowd has already walked out, the music stops and sound effects from a garden start playing , like when a movie puts in a scene at the end of the credits. You get the audio clues that more is coming, and the movie leaves some stories open ended, so you expect a final scene that never comes, a little fun trick as you leave the film. Not your average movie or credits.
