Sure, there are a lot of positive female characters (there are several passive female characters too), but they don't go around beating up grown men who are inept. In fact, the action is very realistic - when women fight men hand to hand they come off second best.
I thought the whole movie was nicely balanced. You basically have three protagonists - one woman and two men. They all redeem themselves and do super-human things. SPOILER - by the way, most of the women get killed in combat.
