No need for a spoiler alert - I think most people on this board know how Vertigo ends!
Re Kim Novak - Hitch was never able to find an actress to replace Grace Kelly, who retired from acting in 1956 at the ripe old age of 26.
Check out Hitch's The Lady Vanishes for another classic. Most of the later stuff, like Family Plot and Topaz, are terrible movies.
