Where were many myths like this one, the creation of the propaganda machines. Some were loosely based on real events, others were total productions. The heroism of the soviet soldiers can not be underappreciated, though... and the propaganda machine also played its role in bolstering its fighting spirit.That particular story unraveled when in 1945 was arrested a man, who early in the war surrendered to the Germans and then actively worked for them.
It turned out, he was one of those "28" and was "posthumously" awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union - the highest military honor in the country.
