There were plenty of bad reviews about Annihilation and that confuses me- Why will a flick like Black Panther or Wonder Woman get rave reviews - when Annihilation gets pummeled with dissatisfaction and anger?
Annihilation reminded me of Soderbergh's version of Solaris with some John Carpenter's The Thing thrown in for good measure (though the special effects in Annihilation paled comparatively).
The performances were all curiously played with a restrained monotone - but I found this riveting and it created tension (some might complain it was boring) Me? I felt like I was reacting for the main players, despite their colorless emotional breadth.
Was Annihilation about death, reincarnation, marriage ...-? I honestly don't know. But that's okay. I thought about Annihilation numerous times after watching it- it captured my imagination... and that's more then I can say, after watching 99% of what's being spit out on a Hollywood conveyor belt these days.
Have a great day!
