Yeah, it's very unseemly, if you ask me.

This response may venture a little off topic, but bear with me.

Personally, I think SONY has just one thing going for it: high quality TV sets. Beyond that, ...well, I've been burned by SONY's less than scrupulous business practices as I'm sure other's have. Along with Phillips, SONY was for many years responsible for the high price of CDs, ...at least until the patents started running out ending their royalties (i.e., that was the main impetus for them pushing the SACD format). Funny thing is, I don't really CARE whether their format is superior to DVD-Audio if I'm caught in the middle between incompatible systems which would either 1) force me to choose between favorite artists or 2) buy separate formats, or 3) purchase a mediocre all-in-one platform that carries both.

SONY's ruthlessness at the expense of customer loyalty is the reason some folks get left in the lurch after purchasing their products. Who can forget the Betamax/VHS wars? Fortunately, I chose well in that campaign, but just a few years prior to the videotape revolution SONY's audio division claimed that they could replicate the sound of tubes with their VFET transistor and I foolishly purchased one of their integrateds thinking I'd have the best of both worlds! Hey, what can I say, I was younger then and didn't know any better! ;^)

Anyway, within four years I was using that SONY amp for ballast in the trunk of my car because SONY ceased supporting their product and replacing the transistors (i.e., even at a premium price) which had a tendency to burn out every 4 to 6 months.

No Tom, my trust of SONY turned to skepticism waaaaay back, but this "fake review" scandal is lower than anything that I thought they were capable of; so low in fact that it's off the scale.
