bone chilling effect

63.26.11.207

I don't like horror films, and here's a good example of the reason. This film caught my interest because of the subject matter and my interest in Tim Robbins (like him or not, you have to keep track of what he does). Ya Steve, that head trick made me soil my pants--and it's not so much the effect as it is the context in which the effect occurs. I can't handle excelent scares like this or graphic violence--the images stay too long in my head (the baby crawling on the ceiling in "Trainspotting" haunts me still!--you can be sure I picked a hell of a time to stop injecting Heroin). I too love ambigious films, and hate it when Hollywood feels the need to "explain" everything to you at the end.
I'm still puzzling over the ending of "2001". Reading the book was no help either. It's one of the reasons I love to watch that film over and over--maybe this time I'll figure it out. There's a bit in the Tibetan Book of the Dead where they explain how you choose your parents when the unenlightened soul riding around the wheel of Karma focuses on couples copulating...but they movie stops before they get to that part.
