I don't know about other players but my marantz dv4100 gets burning hot after 15 mmins of playing cds. It works fine with dvds though, it gets just normaly warm. I don't know is it just mine dvdp, or any marantz dvd player, I bought separate cd player, though at first I planned to use it as cdp as well. So, avoid marantz if you plan to use your dvdp as cdp.
