yea it's really hard to balance a system by ear, and the surround decoding really needs it.

still, i have to dial-in the subwoofer by ear for each program...sometimes you think it's just fine until a dolby digital "explosion" goes off. if i have to endure an "action sequence" I turn the sub off and leave the high pass filter set at 80 Hz. that way I get a nice bass roll-off from the mains without having an involuntary bowel movement.

Who in hollywood mixes this crap? all the nails are popping out of my drywall.

are you using a center speaker? I tried it for months but it sounds so wierd. much prefer the "ghost" stereo imaging.
