Yes this will work just fine. I don't think you'll get a "gross mismatch" between the front and rear speakers as long as you setup the speakers correctly & adjust the volume levels for each speaker as required for the listening position.
If you are listening to DVD-A or SACD then you may be aware of the amplifier differences, but if you are interested in home theater use only for the surround speakers, I don't think you will hear a difference as the effects sent to the rear speakers aren't full range and usually aren't sustained sounds.
