The Wharfedale diamonds are good. So are the Wharfedale Emeralds, which I have. Lots of people get them from uBid (hope this isn't against the PG to type that). I have the Emerald 97s, myself. they seem to be a good entry-level audiophile speaker.you could probably get some decent speakers for $150 (maybe a little more for shipping, esp. if using uBid). then maybe a nad (c370 ?) integrated amp used from the classifieds on audiogon.com. I see various NAD integrateds ranging from $260-$410 (or so). Maybe get the Sony SCD-CE775 CD/SACD player, that is all the rave in the Hi-Rez forum. Should be about $179-225 at Circuit city or Best buy, etc. Maybe less for a floor demo or open box. For the tuner, I would get an old 1970s Sansui tuner, or the like off of eBay for like $30 - but that's me. There are probably several tuners (maybe a matching NAD one?) listed on audiogon.

$619-815plus add shipping, and get some decent gold plated interconnects abd speaker cables from Radio Shack (don't mess with the esoteric stuff yet!). Also forgot to add a rack to place everything on. I dunno. use an 8ft folding banquet table for now! hehe. Are we much over budget?
