Sony TAE9000ES still in production

Hi all,
WAs just wondering if anyone knew if the Sony TAE9000ES pre/pro, and matching 5 channel AV amp TAN9000ES is still in production. I'm interested in purchasing a new one, and here in OZ am told by Sony Austraila, still current, but not in stock and back ordered. Did some net hunting, and is still listed for Sony europe, Hong Kong, and Aus, but surprisingly not in Uk, Singapore, or US/Canada.
Given that Sony Aus don't know whether it's still being produced, or just simply remains of warehouse stock, would like to find out what the situation is, as in the case of say a faulty unity, don't want to be left without say the possibility of a complete changover.
Has anyone heard a reasonably factual account of what's happening with this product?
If it's not a viable prospect, having auditioned Denon and Rotel, but likeing the new DPL2 receiever, the DA5ES/STRVA-555ES, (same receiver, different nomeclamature for different markets) how would it (Sony receiver) be likely to sound vs the pre/power?
