This receiver is a hidden gem. I have not seen this receiver written up. The street price is now $1,000 or less. I think the features are self-explanatory. What I really want to discuss is the sound quality and build quality of this unit. I have owned it since February 2002. I use it as an a/v preamp. The digital upsampling is very high quality. The upsampling adds in everyway. The treble is more smooth, the midrange is very open, the bass is more solid, the soundstage expands, instruments are more localized, etc. I leave the upsampling on with everything I run through it - redbook CDs, SACDs and DVD movies. JVC puts out the excellent XRCDs and developed the K2 digital interface which got some positive reviews a few years back. Whatever the reason, JVC did upsampling right in this reciever. I could recommend it simply on the quality of upsampling. They also shielded the receiver well. Sound emerges from a dead silent background. I have had no hum or popping problems. Switching is dead silent. I don't use the receiver's amps except for the surround channels so I can't say much about them. The surrounds don't sound excessively bright, tubby or "wrong" in anyway.

Bottom Line: Excellent a/v preamp and upsampler.

Product Weakness: Only one coaxial digital input.
Product Strengths: Upsampling is excellent, Very quiet a/v preamp.
