equipment is user friendly

i think all this stuff is generally very user friendly so that it is easy to hook up.

the amp is your center device, in which everything usually gets connected to. so if you turn the amp around to look at the back, you can begin. i'm assuming it's a a/v amp with connections for video, dvd, etc.

everything should be labeled. connect the cd player to the amp. connect all music sources such as tape players, cd, players, to the approiate locations. of course you are using a pair of rca jacks for each of these connections.

also connect all of your video sources, if you have any. these involve 3 rca jacks each because of the addition of the video signal.

if you amp is older, it may just be labeled video 1, video 2, etc., and you can connect any device to any one of these. if you amp is newer, there is probalby a connection labeled 'dvd'.

now of course, you need to connect all the speaker wires between the speakers, and the amp. these are clearly labeled.

last thing for it to work, is to connect a video cable from the amp to the tv. you can use a rca jack from the video out of the amp to the video in on the tv. when you want to play from the video source/amp to the tv, you need to hit the video button on the tv, or the input button, or whatever it's labeled.

that's the basic process, and after it's hooked up. some refinements are possible. like you can also involve your tv speakers into the setup, usually as part of the center channel, or you could have the tv sound hooked up to the amp also by using the audio outs on the tv.

after it's hooked up, you use the stereo button on the amp for regular music listening, and the surround sound, dolby digital, or whatever the surround modes are called, for the 5 channel sound.

how to hook up the equalizer, i'm not positive because i don't use one, but i assume it goes between the cd player and the amp, with rca jacks of course.

you can get rca jacks at radio shack, or at the dollar store.
