Just took my ex shopping for a Receiver since I moved all my equipment out. I talked her into spending the $100 more than the cheapest Pioneers and Sonys and getting the Onkyo SR-500 for its discrete amps and higher current design.I'm VERY impressed with it to say the least, for $300 its 65 WPC drives the Polk SDA 2B's she inherited from me to just about as high levels as my 225 WPC Carver TFM-25 did. The sound quality is excellent, very good detail and dynamics, especially considering the price range. If this thing is where your budget is, I say go for it, it's totally impressive for how inexpensive it is.
When I decide to eventually move from 2 channel I will definitely consider one of the Onkyos, maybe the SR-700...
