There is no such animal as a GOOD and cheap new DVD player, particularly re audio, so, as an interim, I suggest you hunt up a good used player. If you are not worried about interlacing you should be able to pick up a unit someone has upgraded from.You are wise not to outlay too much at the moment, particularly, if like most of us here, you like good audio.
The newer units coming on the market are trying to do all things for all people by handling DVD, CD, SACD, DVD-A, .... so some of the older (and possibly much better) units will be available at greatly reduced prices so shop around.
