Sam, I think you are on to something. While I am not home at the moment, I will start with the DSS, Cable, and remote antenna cables.

I agree with you that it has to be a ground loop. The DSS was installed by a professional; however, now a days that does not mean much. Since these cables separately, or through a common cable, flow to the scaler, I'll bet they are the source. If so, the hum travels up the component cables to the DVD player, then through the audio cables to the pre-amp. I do not quite understand the electric principals governing the event, but if I disconnect the component cables the hum goes away.
