Newbie needs suggestions/help with home theater

Hi, I am new to this board though I've been with AA for a while. I recently completed construction on a 18' x13' home entertainment room in my basement. I ran a dedicated 20 amp power supply, framed over and heavily insualted the walls and ceiling. I then spent considerable time optimizing my analog front end for good sound: accoustic panels, speaker placement etc. I'm ready to move on and want to add some video, digital source of course : ). (The audio portion is well equipped with a Denon AVR and decent quality speakers+sub). I am concerned with ruining my superb soundstage with a big box TV so a projector is the direction I'm headed. I currenly have a possibilty to acquire a Electrohome Marquee 8500 CRT style projector. Its a 1996 and since its coming out of a public institution probably has a lot of hours of it. I dont think I will have a chance to turn it on and check the hours before the auction, but the department who owned it prior said it "worked fine but the picutre was starting to get a little dark". So chances are it needs new tubes. The good news is I might be able to pick this thing up for as little as 300 bucks. Here are my questions
1)Is there a chance that all 3 tubes might not be burnt? and if all 3 are bad, how much $ am I looking at ?
2)The distance from my back wall to the future screen location is 18 feet, is this far enough for this giant thing to focus properly?
3) the ceiling is also rises up 10 inches higher at about the halfway point in the room (9 feet back from screen). Will the ceiling mounted projector shine under this step?
4)This unit has the factory manual, but the remote is missing, is it available and how much would it cost?
5)I currently have an older (non-progressive scan )DVD player, although it does have component video out. A freind suggested running this through a new $300. line trippler that just came on the market(can't recall the name just now). would this give me an outstanding quality 7 foot picture?
I would welcome any helpfull input as I dive into this bewildering new phase of my quest( also feel free to E-mail me).
