Check out the Sony STR-DA7ES. You can get it from various Internet distributors for around $1200 and it compares favorably to receivers costing considerably more (for example, Denon AVR-4802), and it has excellent surround-sound options when being used for HT purposes. Unless you plan on buying new electronics every year or so, I wouldn't worry about the depreciation factor. If you buy something really nice, like the STR-DA7ES, you'll have no need to upgrade for a number of years.Good Luck......Peter
