I have a 32 flat tube Prism (Panasonic's high end effort) circa 1992, and it always had a slight high pitched wine. If I had to guess somewhere around 10k or more in frequency. I did nothing about it. I think if I were in your shoes I would return it if other TVs that you demo in a quiet environment are significantly quieter.I say return it because years later my TV developed a very loud 70 -80 DB high pitched whine when certain high contrast scenes came on. To this day it happens, but the picture setting up high makes it worse.
I recently bought the Avia DVD to more accurately set up the color and picutre on my Hitachi bigscreen. Low and behold the contrast or picture setting went from about 88 to 18. Big change in smoothness of the lines in high contrast areas (like football field)and supposedly preserves the life of the tv.
Try adjusting the picture to a lower level and the brightness to a desireable level and see what happens.
Good luck.
