Re: does it strip or just ignore ?

I would have thought your Reagan-era VCR would just ignore the macrovision encoding, not also strip it. But it's your deck, I dunno.

Some DVD players don't seem to want to output component outputs at the same time as the composite/svideo outputs. My mom's old one was like that. I Don't think her new toshiba is like that. The old one you had to go into the setup and enable or disable component. I don't think most players are like that. I believe most players have output on ALL the video outs (component, svideo, composite) simultaneously. But they might get disabled if you turn on progressive scan (deinterlacer).

Quick answer to you question. Yes, probably.
