I don't know of any Hi 8 decks. I did see , a few years ago, a Memorex , but it wasn't Hi 8.
I am in the same boat, and I use my Sony Hi 8 heavily to do sports videos. I usually send the signal through an analog mixer, which provides a little boost. Than I have the VHS for viewing. I think that the next technology will be the mini dvd camcorder. I therefore am not going to spend anything on digital. If my Hi 8 dies, I will replace it with the cheapest Hi 8 I can find. Prices have been falling.
