You are using the component outputs. Have you checked the S-Video and/or composite outputs? It's possible that IF you've tried the "lighter" AND "darker" settings on the Panasonic, it doesn't pass "below black" on the component outputs. If that's the case, return it for a different model -- "below black" should be passed on all video outputs.
