Hi,i do this all the time... i would recommend not going to VCD and buying a DVD-R drive by Pioneer. Use Pinnacle Studio Deluxe which comes with an interface for Analog and Digital video.
You MUST have lot's of HardDrive Space and a beefy machine (RAM/CPU) to make this happen without much frustration.
All in all, it really works well to do it this way and allows you to edit out those things you don't want to keep and make some nice looking DVD menus to look professional.
