Is 2 channel audio off of a movie same compression as dvd ????

I mean can 2 channel sound better ???

redbook dvd 16bit@44.2khz = 700,000 or so bits per second

while dvds are massively compressed. After compressed video there ain't much room left for audio.

Dolby digital is 10:1 compression (avg)
DTS is 3:1 (avg)

But running a dvd off of the stereo outputs of the dvd player ????
What are those stats ??????????
