DVD player that "upconverts" 480?

Samsung claims that one of their DVD players upconverts 480i to 720p or 1080i. I recognize that our point of comparison isn't 480i, but more commonly 480p.
Nonetheless, do widescreen anamorphic DVDs really look better when played on this DVD player?
