I thought the same thing at first, and yes, Philips is working on a UHP lamp with a 20,000 hour life. At the Philips booth at the last SID convention, they had a specification sheet detailing their two LCOS panels. The panel service life section was listed as a (shockingly disappointing) 20,000 hours. I asked the Philips representatives, and they said that they were "working on improving this" in the future. I'm waiting a while to see the 1920x1080 DLP chips with sequential color recapture before I buy anything (or possibly a Flixel Shutter Array, if those come to production any time soon).
